Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory

Last Friday, Jonny O. met us at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory (I had got a really really good deal on Groupon - on $15 for the 4 of us... otherwise I think it is WAY to expensive for what is there).  Already in the parking lot the kids started singing their "we're going to see Jonny Rosco" song (his name isn't really Jonny Rosco, it is a name that Hannah wanted to use for one of the twins but when it didn't get used and they met Jonny it just stuck to him).
I had to keep telling them to smile like they were happy - otherwise I got really goofy smiles
After a little talk about how there were going to be butterflies flying around and we were not allowed to screech or scream if they landed on us, or swat them, we headed into the butterfly area.  It was really beautiful there - so many butterflies!  And try as we might, we couldn't get even one to land on us.
The kids were facinated by what they were eating... though what caught their attention the most was
a turtle laying on a rock and the stream that flowed through the area.

They didn't want to stand too close to it, but there is a butterfly right between them.
I can understand why people would go there for wedding pictures.  It really is a beautiful garden with little nooks and crannies to sit and watch the butterflies and little birds fly around.  The colours were just amazing as well.
Obviously, Tristan is not smiling like he is happy here :)
There were some displays of other bugs and creatures as well.  Walking sticks, beetles that really looked like they were spray painted a metalic blue and green, a host of beetles and other creepy crawly things as well.

They are apparently working on creating more gardens outside, but for now they have this one garden with a little path that the kids really loved running around.  The variety and colours of the flowers were just beautiful as well and the kids learned what a Rose of Sharon is and will hopefully remember now that I planted two at our house.

The kids knew the right words (crisalids not cacoon) and we saw some butterflies that were just about to come out or had just come out and were drying their wings.  It was a great afternoon to see the beauty and imagination of our Creator.
