Bowling

Tristan and Hannah are now at the age where they are really able to 'do' things.  In the fall we went with Rebekah to the Toronto Zoo and when we were coming home we were talking about bowling.  We said that sometime after the babies were born we would go bowling.  Wouldn't you know it, as soon as the those babies were born, their first question was "When can we go bowling?"

Last Saturday afternoon it worked for us to meet with Rebekah (Mebecca) and Jonathan (Johnny Rosco - we're not really sure where that name came from - Hannah decided one day that one of the babies should be called Johnny Rosco and whne I told her that Rebekah had a brother named Johnny - the Rosco just stuck). I made the mistake of telling them at breakfast that we would go later in the afternoon.  With no real concept of time, Hannah was so concerned that she was going to miss it, that she sat in front of the fire, claiming she was cold, and watched the clock for 3 hours till it was finally time to go!  I couldn't even distract her with cleaning the bathrooms (as she usually likes to do on Saturday mornings) though we did manage to get the kids to dust the stairs.

So this was a double exciting day.  We were going to see Mebecca and Johnny Rosco AND go bowling for the first time.

We are nutbars... why do you ask

Rebekah is just as nuts as we are :)

Tristan would get sooooo excited to see the numbers change after each ball was bowled

Tristan got right into things.  As soon as he let go of his ball he would crouch down and say "Wait for it... wait for it!!!" and then snap his fingers in excitment over a pin fell over.  Sometimes the anticipation was too much and he's sprawl out on the floor.

Hannah had this handy contraption.  She never would have been able to get a ball all the way down the lane, but here she put the ball on top and pushed it with all her might (it helped get some aim too).  She often had this facial expression.. the nerves of what was going to happen next - no matter who bowled - was almost too much for her. It was also a very good thing (especially for the adults) to have the rails up so there were no gutter balls. :)

It was really neat to see how excited the kids got for everyone else's turn as well and fun to hear them cheering.  I'd never really seen this 'competetive' side of them either.  They didn't care if they won or lost and had great fun, but also tried to do better with each turn.  Tristan made sure to throw the ball on one side or the other depending on which pins were still up and Hannah's ramp was moved (mostly by Rebekah and me) to make sure she didn't just put the ball in the same spot.

It was a real joy to spend time with my dear friends who were so kind to the kids and see the kids just LOVE spending that time together.  I am so thankful for Rebekah and Jonathan for their friendship and love and for the way that they love kids.  I am also so thankful to be able to spend time with Tristan and Hannah -even though they are nutbars - and make these great memories with them.
