Have you ever done something that you never thought you'd do in a million years? Well this weekend I am.

Growing up we always had cats in the house... it was just part of the maddenss. At one time we had 6 girls, 2 cats, 1 dog and a bird, so it isn't like I haven't grown up around animals. This weekend I'm dogsitting for some friends... the least I could do to help them out for 1 day and 1 night, right?!?

I had been talking to a old landlady of mine and mentioned what my plans were for the weekend. Even she was shocked. Normally, Hettie is the one who is called on the watch the animals. Dogs go crazy with joy when Hettie is around - she'll play, wrestle and snuggle with them. Me, well, let's just say, I don't pet them, don't talk to them, don't look at them...

To my pleasant suprise, Winston is a great dog. Basically she has been laying at my feet since last night. She 'runs' outside and then comes obediently. I even pet her last night (though I was told that if I start I'll never be done so when I went outside and then came back in I didn't pet her again). She went into her kennel with no problems last night and slept well. I was woken up early and so I've been going for a bit this saturday morning, but Winston has eaten, gone outside, had a drink and is now laying beside me while I type.

Now, I'm not saying that I'd like a dog... but it is nice to have some companionship while in a strange house. We'll see how I feel as the day progresses.

I AM surprised! Not that I don't think you capable.. but, as you said, Hettie is the pet lover, not you. We even turned down a request to dog-sit, but that was more b/c of the thought of having a big dog in my own house for about a week.
Have fun! You might find yourself getting a dog of your own now.

Jen, I can just see you, determined not to pet the dog, but feeling an overwhelming sense of not wanting to disappoint her as she looks up at you with big, begging eyes ;) Now I, on the other hand, would pet the dog all night just b/c I loved to! At least, that's what the "old" me would have done - right now I'm quite happy with a small rabbit that stays outside in the shed, thank-you very much :)

poor winston... not even a little pet on the head, a small hug, a slight hug? sniff, sniff... I bet you are missing her now! Dogs have a way of begging themselves into your heart. Next time your over, you can pet Charlie and Wilbur, our lovable rodents! How handy to know that you've added pet-sitting to your full resume!!!

I did pet Winston a bit... but Kelley I would never pet Charlie and Wilbur... rodents... I mean hamsters are too much! I'm good with fish... something you can flush when it dies. Pet sitting isn't going anywhere near my resume - sorry to disappoint you.

What makes you think I wouldn't flush a rodent when it dies ;))
